Detox your mind, body and soul

Detox your mind, body and soul

The word “detox” is typically associated with the physical body. Detoxification is about resting, cleansing and nourishing the body from the inside out. By removing and eliminating toxins, then feeding your body with healthy nutrients, detoxifying can help protect you from disease and renew your ability to maintain optimum health through a range of methods including yogameditation and more.

Detoxing can do more than make your eyes sparkle and your skin glow – it can boost energy levels, improve digestion and help drop a few unwanted kilos too.

The purpose of any detox plan is to take the load off the organs that detoxify the body – the liver, kidneys and bowel – while at the same time supporting and improving their performance.

When we think about health, diet and exercise are typically the first thing that come to mind. However, good health isn't just about the physical body. Our mind and body are interconnected and affect each other tremendously.

For example, a stressful situation causing negative thoughts can lead to physical pain or illness. It is important to maintain a healthy balance between your mind, body, and soul by nurturing your whole self, including your physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual needs.

There are many things you can do in your daily life to achieve overall wellness. Here are a few simple ways to begin cultivating a mind-body-soul balance.

Remove and limit toxins, junk and clutter coming into your mind, home and body.

Bring nurturing, healing thoughts, sounds and substances into your inner and outer environments.

As surely as toxins affect your body, negative thoughts, beliefs and behaviours poison your mental health by creating unhappiness and stress.

Tips for healthy home detox:

Your own home can be several times more polluted than the air outside. Environmental poisons also come from pesticides, herbicides, mould, and chemicals. You bring them into your home on non-organic fabric, chemical cleaning products and personal products, on your shoes and on your food.

All these poisons adversely affect your cells and make you susceptible to disease.  They can be inhaled and absorbed through your skin.

Getting you home rid of toxins and clutter is good for mental and physical health. It is impossible to avoid the thousands of chemical toxins in our modern world, but you can limit exposure in your home and personal environment.

De-clutter your home and personal spaces. Clutter creates an undercurrent of stress.

Bring at least a few things you love and enjoy looking at in your space. This may include pillows in your favourite colours or pictures of loved ones

Detox your life of anything in your personal space that harms your body and mind. This includes foods, chemicals, TV shows, music, and substances. Replace them with nurturing and supportive images and substances.

Your body, mind and spirit will thank you for doing a healthy home detox.

Tips for Natural Body Detox

What you put in your body accidentally and on purpose makes detoxification a necessity. It has to detox from bad foods, alcohol, drugs, heavy metals, chemicals, medications, and metabolic wastes.

There are several ways to detoxify your body and different reasons for doing so.

The body has natural body detoxification channels that store or eliminate toxins. You naturally and continuously detoxify your body through your lungs, skin, liver and organs of elimination. One of the very best ways to support your physical health is to reduce incoming toxins and provide nutritional support so these systems can do their jobs better. It is easier to keep toxins out of your body than to get them out

Avoid putting chemical products on your body. Keep them out of your personal space.

Avoid processed and refined foods, sugar, honey, high fructose corn syrup, artificial sweeteners, coffee etc.

Eat raw foods

Raw foods are great for the body as they are rich in enzymes, antioxidants and nutrients. Ensure to wash well before consuming.

Try to add colour to your plate by adding different coloured foods to give you the antioxidant boost.

Include Natural detoxifying Super foods

Lemon

Add some fresh lemon juice to the water you drink or the food you eat. One of the best detox drink is lemon water. Lemon is a rich source of Vitamin C which makes your skin glow and improves immunity. Lemon also alkalises and cleanses your body. Squeeze a lemon in 1 glass of lukewarm water and have it every morning after you wake up. You will see the magical changes in no time.

Turmeric

Since the primary purpose of a detoxification exercise is to support the organs of elimination like liver, turmeric comes to the rescue and its antioxidants play a critical role in combating the cell damage that can stack up with age.

Flaxseeds
Fibre-powered flaxseeds can help keep many diseases at bay and its mix of nutrients helps internal cleansing. Since flaxseeds contain both soluble and insoluble fibre, they facilitate smooth bowel movement and prevent the re-absorption of cholesterol from the colon. Sprinkle a tablespoons into your morning smoothie or salad.

Yogurt

Yogurt that contains probiotics supplies healthy bacteria that fortify the gastro intestinal tract's natural flora, aiding digestion and boosting the body's natural immune responses

Increase your water intake

Water helps your body to flush the toxins. Aim to drink three liters of fluid daily. This will help move the lymph and support kidney detoxification. Choose from water, fresh vegetable juice and herbal teas. Add one teaspoon of the dried herbs like cumin, fennel to a cup of boiling water. Leave to steep for five minutes, strain and drink.

Get proper Sleep

Sleeping for an adequate number of hours is as important as healthy eating and exercising. Sleeping is the time when your body re-energises for the next day. Proper sleep can improve your mood and give your day a kick-start

Get up and move

Exercising helps your body to feel energetic by improving the blood circulation. Improved blood circulation has a lot of benefits including improved digestion leading to regular bowel movement, relieves stress and tension, keeps your joints lubricated and provides a sense of wellbeing. People who exercise regularly have increased metabolism and fewer toxins in their body as compared to those who do not exercise at all.
Choose to exercise daily at least for 30-45 minutes. You can take up any form of exercise such as walking, yoga, running or simply going to the gym. The choice is yours, pick one and get going.

Emotional and Mental Detox

A toxic mind may be cluttered with negativity, angry thoughts that spill out as angry words, annoyances, guilt and stress. It might lead you to overspend on stuff you don't need and can't afford, cause low self-worth, or lead you to health-harming behaviours. It may churn and instigate conflict with others

Detox the mind: While you're detoxing the body, it is good to clear the clutter from the mind too. Aim for 15 minutes of meditation per day. If you don't know how to meditate, try belly breathing. Start by placing hands palm down on your lower belly. Breathe in through your nose, counting slowly to 3 or 4 counts. Feel your tummy rise with the breath. Breathe out just as slowly, allowing the belly to drop. Do this for 15 minutes daily.

Fuel your passions. Set aside some time each day to do what makes your soul happy. Many of us work so much that we forget how great it feels to paint, dance, listen to music, write, or swim.

Listen to music often. And sing along or dance! It is a great mood elevator.
